Part Time Community Projects Coordinator

First 5 Ventura County is seeking a temporary, part-time project coordinator with demonstrated experience collaborating with agencies, nonprofits and volunteer groups to reach children’s health, early learning and family strengthening goals. The selected candidate will coordinate or oversee several F5VC breastfeeding projects, including development and management of a countywide hospital consortium to improved breastfeeding policies and practice, and expansion of a breastfeeding support line. He or she will also conduct online research, policy and program scans, provide logistical support to a countywide early literacy campaign and act as a liaison between F5VC and key special-project partners.

This position is best suited to an individual who thrives in a fast paced environment, enjoys working independently on multiple projects and is comfortable taking a leadership role with volunteer groups, physicians, hospital administrators and collaboratives.  Must be able to travel to partner sites throughout Ventura County. This position may require occasional evening meetings.

Minimum qualifications include:

• Bachelor’s degree and five or more years experience managing community projects that support children and families.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Familiarity with Ventura County resources for children and families.
• Understanding of good nutrition and physical activity practices for expectant parents, young children and families.
• Knowledge of breastfeeding resources and best practices.
• Reliable transportation and auto insurance.

Salary Range: $23.22 - $36.77 p/hr. DOE (25-30 hours/week)

*This is a temporary, non-benefited position through June 2013.
Starting salary is based on experience and may not exceed 90% of the maximum.

Good for Kids Restaurant Project Coordinator

First 5 Ventura County is seeking to contract with a project coordinator who has experience in health and nutrition outreach and familiarity with the restaurant industry to help bring the Good for Kids (GFK) restaurant program to scale one of our pilot communities (Ventura or Oxnardi). This work will take place between now and June 30, 2012 with a new contract considered after July 1, 2012 to expand depth and reach in other Ventura County communities.

This project improves access to healthy foods by giving restaurants the opportunity to offer one or more Good for Kids healthy meal and be “certified” by First 5 Ventura County and post a GFK seal in their restaurant. Certified restaurants must offer a menu item(s) that meet nutritionist-designed criteria and make Good for Kids nutrition tips and promotional items available to families.  First 5 Ventura County and our community partners will promote the program and its participating restaurants as part of a countywide nutrition outreach campaign.

The coordinator will be responsible for restaurant outreach and engagement, for helping restaurants identify foods and menu items that meet the established nutritional criteria, and for designing practical ways to track and measure participation and compliance. The coordinator will also make recommendations for program improvement and expanded promotional strategies.

Up to $4,000 is available for this initial contract, which is estimated at 12-25 hours weekly, depending on experience. The selection criteria will include a balance of qualification and price.
