FUNDS AWARDED
The promise of Proposition 10 - promoting, supporting, and improving the early development
of children - is being met in Ventura County through the following funding awards. For a

- $8 million in annual funding for Neighborhoods for Learning
- Funds for communities to design family and community supports that contribute to childrens
readiness for school success.
- $1.5 million for One-Time Barrier Reduction and High Impact/High Innovation Projects
- Funds for programs to improve access to quality services for children prenatal to age five
and for innovative ideas and "best practices". Thirty-seven projects funded to address
a wide array of needs from dental health, child safety, domestic violence, special needs
playgrounds and increased access to child care services.
- $2 million in annual funding for Child Health Projects
- Funds for programs that provide access to comprehensive health care services. Projects
funded will provide home visitation services, case management for teenage mothers, consultation
and assistance to early child care providers, along with outreach and support for foster children
and victims of abuse.
- $1.1 million in annual funding for a Center for Excellence
- The Commission has granted funds to California State University Channel Islands and
its partners, Child Development Resources of Ventura County, Ventura and Moorpark Community
Colleges, California State University Northridge, and the UCLA Center for Healthier Children,
Families and Communities to administer the Center for Excellence. The Center will provide
quality assurance and capacity development for the Commission, as well as implement a results
accountability system.
- $1.3 million in annual funding for Family Strengthening Initiative
- Funds for strategies that empower parents and lead to children living in nurturing environments. Projects funded will foster integrated service systems through the development of a countywide parent education model, as well as address early literacy needs, supports for foster families, and family-friendly workplace policies by developing models with local businesses that can be replicated. In addition, funds were granted for a mobile pre-school and a family development resource center.
- $250,000 in annual funding for Retention Incentive Program for early child care
educators and professionals
- Training stipends for early child care providers who engage in quality training opportunities
